What is Blending & Blender Types?

Bins or IBCs (IBC is the correct technical name, it stands for Intermediate Bulk Container) are the best method of handling, blending, and transferring any less-then-3000-liter batch powder product. The process of blending is very simple. Basically, the products are tumble diffused by continuously rotating the bin.

Servolift offers a whole host of bin types and blenders as follows:

Cage style blender for chemical
operation (painted mild steel),
unit handles 1500 l, 2000 l,
and 2500 liter bins.

Cage Style Blender:

The cage blender is our most popular method of handling the bins. The unit has a powered clamping cage that is cantilevered off our machine. The bin can be loaded by a manual pallet jack, which reduces the possibility of damage to the machine or process room by a powered forklift. The bin is held at an offset to the blend rotation for an asymmetric flow in the bin during tumbling (speeds up the blending process). This style unit works with round and square bins and can handle different size bins all in one machine (universal clamping system).

Arm Style blender:

This style of machine blends the bin in the exact same method as the cage unit. However, it offers some extra flexibility over the cage system: 1. The unit allows for easy access to the top of the bin, which can be used to introduce (dust free) excipients/lubricants in the mid-blending process; 2. The unit can grab any bin size in the same place, allowing for the same blending geometry over a wide range of bins (for example, a 600 liter bin and a 2000 liter bin can be picked up at the same geometrical position. This is not easily possible with a cage style unit).

Round Bin Blender:

In a round bin blender, the arm system is not offset from the blending rotation as the container is symmetric. Servolift employs a special technique that does NOT use baffles (unlike other systems) to give an asymmetric flow in the container. Servolift offers testing in both round and square geometries with and without baffles. Please inquire for further details.

Laboratory Blenders
:
Servolift produces blenders for round and square bins in two basic versions: 1. Desktop blender for up to 30 liter bins; 2. Mobile blender for up to 150 liter bins. Our units employ state-of-the-art variable speed drives and controls per your requirements.

Capacities: Generally speaking, IBCs have up to a 70% fill capacity for proper blending; with the addition of baffle it is possible to Achieve up to 80%. It is always best to test your products in our NJ laboratory prior to placing an order.
